On March 25th at 3am EDT/7am GMTthe Moon opposes the Sun in 5 degrees of Libra/Aries. The entrance of the Moon into Libra on March 24th begins the energetic build-up towards this powerful Full Moon.

This powerful Full Moon is a Penumbral Lunar Eclipse (the most subtle kind of Lunar Eclipses). It can be viewed in parts of Antarctica, the western half of Africa, western Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, North and South America, the Pacific Ocean, Japan, and the eastern half of Australia.

It lasts for approximately 4 hours and 40 minutes, so we can expect to sense the influence of this Lunar Eclipse for four months and twenty days. Our physical and emotional bodies strongly feel the intensity of it all, so keep in mind that eclipses ultimately support a shift in consciousness and thus bring us closer to our Soul’s path.

During a Lunar Eclipse, the Full Moon slowly dims as it passes through the Earth’s shadow, stimulating our emotional body and increasing our awareness of unconscious patterns and fears. This means we may feel more easily triggered as buried emotions, motivations, and fears surface. Beware of projections and jumping to conclusions.

This particular Lunar Eclipse is the first of two Eclipses within two weeks; it offers an opportunity for a more balanced connection to life and others.

If you are unsure whether you are projecting something on someone else, check for defensiveness, overreactivity, or difficulty being objective while exhibiting rigid behaviors.

Eclipse Season started on March 15th and lasts until April 18th (that’s 10 days after the Solar Eclipse in Aries that follows this Lunar Eclipse).

So the questions here are: What am I aware of? What will I choose? Where will I focus my mind? My Heart? What might become possible if I got 5% more comfortable with being in transition?

Eclipses are always powerfully connected to the Moon Nodes and thus to our Soul’s Journey (collectively and individually).

This is the first South Node Lunar Eclipse in Libra since the Moon Nodes have shifted into the Aries-Libra polarity in July of last year — highlighting issues around relationship dynamics (“me” vs. “we”) and assertion vs. collaboration.

The Moon Nodes usually remain in any particular polarity for 18 months. They return to the same polarity every 18-19 years.

All Eclipses transmit new energetic codes and transformative downloads symbolized by the signs involved.

The North Node in Aries emphasizes the necessity of a healthy connection with oneself — with our passions, personal goals, active pursuits, and our current independent path.

The South Node in Libra extends an invitation to create a more balanced connection between ourselves, others, and life — and to take a closer look at any dependency issues with others.

There was a Full Moon in 5º of Libra in March of 2005 when the Moon Nodes were in the Aries-Libra polarity as they are right now, however the Moon Nodes where too far away from the Full Moon polarity, for it to be an Eclipse. Therefore, the last time we had a South Node Lunar Eclipse in Libra was in April 1987.

Think back to that time — if you are old enough to remember: What needed to change about your relationship with yourself and with others?

There are several aspects worth mentioning in this Full Moon-Lunar Eclipse chart:

  • The Moon in Libra not only opposes the Sun but also Chiron in Aries, and it trines Pluto in Aquarius
  • Venus, the ruler of Libra, is currently in Pisces, closely aligned with Saturn and in a wide conjunction with Neptune in Pisces
  • The Venus-Saturn alignment in Pisces sextiles the Jupiter-Uranus alignment in Taurus
  • Venus also quincunxes the South Node in Libra
  • Mars, the ruler of Aries, is currently in an early degree of Pisces and makes a semi-sextile to Pluto in Aquarius, as well as a wide conjunction to Saturn in Pisces
  • Mercury entered its pre-Shadow phase @16º of Aries on March 18th and will begin to slow down (station) @26/27º of Aries on March 28th, starting its 3.5-week Retrograde phase on April 1st! (See Forecasting Forum March 22nd)

We will address all of these aspects in a moment — but first, let’s take a look at the Libra-Aries polarity:

The more an Eclipse activates our birth chart, the more we feel impelled to go to the next level. Because Eclipses are so powerful, they require a bigger orb than a regular Full or New Moon. I usually use a 5º orb instead of 2º — so since this Lunar Eclipse takes place in 5 degrees of Libra:

Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in 0-10 degrees of Libra, Aries, Capricorn, or Cancer? If so, you may feel the effects of this Full Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
