On August 23rd at 2:07am EDT, the Moon aligns with the Sun in 0º23’ degrees of Virgo, marking the beginning of a new Moon cycle. We start to feel the effects of this New Moon the moment the Moon enters Virgo, 43 minutes before the New Moon becomes exact. Feel free to watch my New Moon video on the subject.
Before we get started, I just want to mention my next Star Hour on the Soulivity Community platform.
This is a FREE Livestream event. Join us Saturday, August. 23rd at 12:30pm EDT/9:30am PT/5:30pm London-time!
==> RSVP here to get a reminder email — and if this is your first time joining us, please allow a few extra minutes to get yourself set up on the Soulivity Community platform.
Now back to the New Moon:
For several nights before and after each New Moon, we are in the dark, transitioning between old and new Moon Cycles.
We are called to turn inward, to be extra-receptive to the messages of our feelings, body, and heart. We are invited to get extra rest, release outdated energy patterns, and realign with our true soul intentions.
New Moons are thus the best time to set Intentions for the 28 days following. I will talk about the best and most potent time to plant some seeds towards the end of this article, so stay tuned!
This New Moon is special for several reasons: it takes place in 0 degrees of Virgo (an exalted degree), and is the first of two consecutive New Moons in the same sign.
The next Lunar cycle begins on Sept. 21st — it is also a New Moon in Virgo and the first South Node Solar Eclipse in this Earth sign in 19 years (to be precise, since September 2006). It occurred at 29º of Virgo — and the one this September will too!
Also, because of the upcoming Eclipses, this New Moon starts Eclipse Season and this will last until October 13th, 2025. The first Eclipse will be a Lunar Eclipse in Pisces on Sept. 7th, followed by the very first Solar Eclipse in Virgo since the Moon Nodes have shifted into Pisces-Virgo on Jan. 11th of this year).
Eclipses call for physical, mental, and emotional recalibration, providing an opening to move to the next level of our personal and collective evolution.
Eclipse Season happens twice a year and it is usually an unpredictable time. Flexibility, thinking outside the box, and self-care are critical during Eclipse season!
Self-care is particularly important in times of stress and/or change — basic things, like making sure that we eat healthily and regularly, drink plenty of water, exercise, get plentiful rest — and allow affection in from friends, family, or pets.
Anything started from scratch during Eclipse Season will likely not pan out the way we thought it would, often because important information comes to light only after the Full Moon that follows the last Eclipse.
If possible, defer any brand-new projects until after October 13th, when this Eclipse season is over. That said, if something is beginning or ending in a way that seems organic, allow it to come through
We will also talk about those upcoming Eclipses in our next Forecasting Forum on Saturday, Sept. 6th, so feel free to join us and find out more about how these Eclipses will impact your own personal evolutionary shifts.
This New Moon features numerous aspects involving the outer planets:
Uranus in Gemini squares this New Moon while Saturn and Neptune in Aries both make a Quincunx to it. This provides an impetus to “think different” and make inner adjustments so we can focus on our own path and follow our inner guidance.
On top of this, Uranus also starts its station on the day of the New Moon, preparing for its yearly Retrograde phase. This will make this innovative and insightful planet (related to cosmic breakdowns and breakthroughs) more exalted until Sept. 16th!
And then we come to Mercury, the messenger, ruler of Virgo —

Do you have your Ascendant (or any personal planets) in the following: 0-3 degrees of Virgo, Pisces, Gemini, Sagittarius, or 28-29 degrees of Leo, Aquarius, Taurus, or Scorpio? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).
The New Moon is also the best time to set powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle. Intentions are best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact — and not during a Moon void of course phase.
So this month, the best and most potent time to set intentions would be between 2:07am on Aug. 23rd, and 2:07am on Aug. 25th. (as with all my times, these times are in EDT, the New York time zone). There is no Moon VoC during the most potent time to set our Intentions, so we have free rein between those times.
If you live in a timezone other than EDT (as a reminder, that’s the US East Coast time zone), feel free to join my Facebook Fan-page, or follow me on Instagram. I will be posting reminders during this most potent time to let you know when it is time to set your intentions.
