On May 19th, at 11:53am EDT, the New Moon becomes exact in 28.5 degrees of Taurus. This marks the beginning of a new Moon cycle; it also marks the end of Eclipse Season!  Click here to watch my video on the subject.

As best as you can, get really quiet, and see if you are getting any new messages or ideas. If you are, harvest them, and fold them into any intentions you set for the new Moon cycle — I will talk about this process later in the forecast, and I’ll even give you the very best and most potent times for doing so…

This New Moon sextiles Neptune in Pisces, Mars in Cancer, conjuncts Uranus in Taurus, and trines a retrograde Pluto in 0º of Aquarius.

Mercury in Taurus & Mars in Cancer are both exalted at the time of this New Moon (for different reasons), the Moon and Venus are in a mutual reception to each other, and we have a T-Square/GrandCross with Jupiter in Taurus as the Focal Point.

So, as you can see, lots going on in this New Moon chart, collectively painting a complex picture with a focus on the feminine, receptive energies. Nine out of eleven planets are in feminine signs.

Before we go into all of these aspects in more detail, however, let’s first talk about the sign of Taurus. With 6 planets/points (Jupiter, North Node, Mercury, Uranus, the Sun & the Moon) in Taurus, we are feeling a strong need to focus on this earthy sign for the next 28 days:

Steady, peaceful Taurus places more focus on our interactions with the physical world — you could say that we seek a healthier relationship with “matter”, one in which we are neither too attached, nor too disconnected from things on the physical plane — for example, our bodies, resources (such as money), and the planet we co-inhabit.

We are powerfully reminded to take the time to honor the only planet we can currently live on — The Earth — and honor its resources and beauty.

In much the same spirit, we are invited also to honor ourselves, our bodies, and our talents. This is a good time for reevaluating our relationship with money and possessions, and for discovering what truly makes us happy and fulfilled, so check in with yourself: What came to mind when you read or heard this?

Let’s talk about some of the aspects in this New Moon chart: The New Moon in Taurus sextiles Neptune in Pisces:

Taurus ultimately seeks to honor spirit in form, recognizing the physical world as an expression of the divine, and the body as a sacred vehicle.

Pisces understands the paradox between physical and spiritual — between matter and energy. This is therefore an opportunity to join our need for material comfort and enjoyment of life to a gentler and more intuitive approach.

Ask yourself: How might…

Ask yourself: How might meditation or mindfulness — simply being present in the now-moment to all the energies inside and around me — support my enjoyment of life?

What might merging my five senses with my sixth sense bring to awareness? What small step could I take toward this? What if there were a huge leap I could make? What might that be?

Something to contemplate or journal on: If everything is interconnected on an energetic level and everything is energy — even the densest of masses — might it make sense to be really conscious and aware of how I treat everyone and everything around me (including myself)?

Might it make sense that my thoughts and behaviors have a direct impact on the whole energy field that we all co-inhabit? Could it potentially have a direct impact on me if I were to disregard this interconnectivity?

The New Moon in Taurus sextiles Mars in Cancer: This may be a good time to take action on some financial matters that bring us a sense of emotional security. It might also be an opportunity to engage with others in a nurturing, familiar way — and enjoy a good meal, a glass of wine, etc.

Our self-confidence and self-esteem can get a boost here: we feel we can meet life on life’s terms and stand up for ourselves (and our point of view) without becoming hostile or confrontational. The physical and emotional body align.

Ask yourself: What might trusting my body’s intrinsic knowing of something that I feel emotionally connected to allow me to do? If there was a single, really simple action step, that would feel nurturing to me, what might that be? How might combining my emotional needs with a realistic, practical approach support me at this time?

The New Moon trines retrograde Pluto in 0 degrees of Aquarius. This is an out-of-sign Trine, meaning that the planets involved are in signs, that would normally square each other, but because of the late degree of the New Moon and the early degree of the Retrograde Pluto, the planets involved are less than 2 degrees apart from forming an exact Trine with each other.

This aspect invites us to empower each other in regard to earthly issues and mutually support each other. We are also being invited to focus on what we actually have control over, and surrender any fears about the outside world and its social or political issues — all those things that we do not have control over.

Ask yourself: What fears, unhelpful behaviors, or destructive patterns have been holding me back from truly seeing my value and the physical beauty of life all around me?

Where does my self-confidence currently come from? Does it come from within or from outside sources? If my body had any say in this, what might it be saying to me? Does the current source of my confidence empower me or create more fear and anxiety within or around me?

How might I find more powerful ways to empower myself and others? What would it look like if I were more truthful and authentic in my connection with others? How about my self-connection? How could honoring myself, my talents, and my current physical reality help me manifest a better future?

The New Moon also conjuncts Uranus in Taurus. We have been feeling this alignment several times already since 2019; it underlines the message that our willingness to innovate and break free from outdated physical norms and comforts is strong. We are invited to operate without social approval.

This is our time to develop some self-love and awareness. New ways of seeing, using, and approaching our personal possessions, valuables, money, and talents are becoming inevitable.

Ask yourself: What is the next step on my journey toward becoming an ever-stronger, healthy individual, one who honors and loves themselves, and is not afraid to have different values from others? Where do I need to break free from a physical rut?

What does my body require to feel more free? Over the next 28 days, could I break away from anything that keeps me from honoring myself? Including any attachments to what feels comfortable in my life?

The Moon in Taurus & Venus in Cancer have a mutual reception to each other — in other words, these planets are in each other’s signs at the time of the New Moon — meaning they “mutually” support each other’s agenda.

This allows us to connect a sense of earthiness and practicality with familiarity, or nurturing connections to others. Slowing down and Self-care is key!

As best as you can, nurture yourself, and focus on things that support your physical and emotional well-being in all areas of your life. Most of all: be kind to yourself and take baby steps! In other words, move out of your comfort zone by all means, just do so slowly.

Ask yourself: If a 28-day timer started now, who could I contact in support of this agenda before the timer went off?

Mercury & Mars are both exalted at the time of this New Moon (for different reasons):

Mercury is still stationing (exalted) until May 20th — which is the day after the New Moon becomes exact. Mercury ends its Retrograde phase on May 14th in the late evening; entering its post-Shadow phase at that time. Feel free to check the weekly/daily forecasts for more details on Mercury’s movements.

An exalted Mercury in Taurus that is moving through its Shadow phase, asks us to think carefully about all the decisions we have made during the Retrograde phase April 21st – May 14th.

Ask yourself: What needs to be addressed with regard to finances? Physical enjoyment of life? Honoring myself? Where have I become too attached to physical comforts? Where do I resist money and finances in my life?

What did I learn about my earning power and my sense of self-worth over the past 3 weeks? How might I share my findings in a healthy way?

Mars is in the last degree (29º) of Cancer at the time of the New Moon, which also makes it exalted. A planet in the last degree of a sign feels “louder”, as it is trying to express as much as it can of the current sign, before moving into the next — sort of a “last hurrah” before moving on.

This would indicate a strong urge to complete something, most likely something that started when Mars moved into Cancer on March 25th, 2023.

There is an impatience in the air around family issues, the physical (or emotional) home we have or have not yet created for ourselves, and/or creating more emotional safety in our lives in general.

Ask yourself: What projects began around March 25th in connection with any of these issues? What actions did I take? What actions still remain to be taken?

Less than 24 hours after the New Moon becomes exact, Mars will move into 0º of Leo, making an exact Opposition to Pluto in Aquarius and an exact Square to Jupiter in Taurus, as well as approaching a Square to the Moon Nodes in Taurus-Scorpio (exact on May 26th).

The opposition with Pluto will last until May 29th and asks us to find a balance between our desire for love and joyful self-expression that feels gratifying to us, versus our deeper social processes of transformation and deeper belonging out there in the world, in our various communities.

Ask yourself: What is my motivation for connecting with others out there in the world? What does true belonging look like? Does it exclude individual self-expression? Or is there space for all kinds of diverse expression? What part do I play?

Where is the balance point between being fully myself without apologies, versus working for a greater purpose out there in the world?

How might a deep focus on self-expression and creative authenticity serve me at this time? What needs to transform so I can be fully myself — an empowered version of myself –and fully alive?

This T-Square/GrandCross has Jupiter in Taurus as the Focal Point. This asks us to break down long-standing ways of dealing with external pressures.

With Jupiter as the focal planet, we are invited to act on our inner wisdom and honor what is true for us while respecting the desires and deep processes of others — and what we are experiencing collectively.

Squares mark important turning points, they energize us to make a shift in perspective and direction in order to progress. In other words, we are being asked to stretch ourselves and grow beyond what we have previously known for ourselves, and where we have been comfortable up until now.

Ask yourself: Where is my vision calling me to be more emotionally authentic, deeply alive, and fully connected in my interactions with others? What fears are keeping me from realizing this vision?

Where I am being called to have a more pleasant embodied experience in this lifetime? What needs to be honored? What expectations or attitudes need to be adjusted, for me to realize this?

What if I allowed myself to see beauty everywhere? Including my own?

What if I embraced my worth fully and completely? What if self-worth was not determent by other people’s idea of what it means to be worthy, but what if it was always and already given to us all at birth? Could I value myself exactly as I am and as I am not?

Venus also Squares Chiron in Aries in this New Moon chart. This asks us to stretch and grow around our ability to be vulnerable.

We have a chance here to learn from one another; ironically though, social insecurities can be magnified at this time.

Whenever Chiron is involved, we are asked to do some healing work; as best as you can, use this time to learn about your sore spots. Nobody is perfect: we all have our flaws and idiosyncrasies. It’s ok.

The more we resist our feelings, the more we keep them spinning in place. Ask yourself: What might change if I had 5% more compassion for myself and others? What might a good dose of love and compassion bring to it all? How might I access a dash of those ingredients when I need them most?

To sum it all up for this New Moon: it is in our best and highest interest to honor the Earth, the planet we live on, and our physical experience as we move through this human life.

With so many planets in Taurus, it reminds us that happiness is ultimately an inner state — we must each honor our own values and find appreciation and inner fulfillment wherever we can.

This New Moon also helps us transcend old mindsets around money, self-esteem, and security.

The more we can honor ourselves, our talents, and our relationship to the physical realm, the more we can connect to the love and abundance that surrounds us in every moment.

Ask yourself: What would I need to add or subtract from my life to better experience it as peace, abundance, and radiant love? Might adding a daily dash of love, grace, and gratitude add to my joy on this physical journey?

Lots of shifts are happening, internally as well as externally. So a certain amount of discomfort and feeling unsettled is natural.

Ask yourself: Could I get 5% more comfortable with feeling unsettled and uncomfortable? What if those feelings were good news? What if those feelings ultimately lead to a healthy connection with myself, my body, my talents, and my worth? If that were true, could I simply hang out with the discomfort, just for right now?

Do you have your Ascendant or any personal planets in 26-29 degrees of Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius, or 0-1 degrees of Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo, or Pisces? If so, you may feel the effects of this New Moon more strongly. This is also true for those of us who have our Ascendant or Sun-sign in Leo or Cancer (the Sun rules Leo; the Moon rules Cancer).

The New Moon is also the best time to set some powerful intentions for this month’s Moon cycle. This is best done soon after the New Moon becomes exact — and definitely not during a Moon void of course phase.

This month, the best and most potent time to set intentions would therefore be between 11:53am on May 19th and 11:53am on May 21st. The only exception would be a 1-hour period on Friday afternoon, May 19th — there will be a brief Moon VoC between 1:51pm and 2:48pm. All of the above times are given in US East Coast time.

If you live in a timezone other than EDT (US-Eastern Daylight Savings Time), feel free to join my Facebook Fan-page or follow me on Twitter. I will be posting reminders on May 19th, 20th and 21st — to let you know that it’s the best time to set your intentions
